Need to send a firearm to a gunsmith, back to the manufacturer for warranty, or to a dealer in another state? You can't hand USPS, UPS, or FedEx a handgun and have it shipped yourself. As a licensed FFL, we package and ship it out for you — done right and fully documented.

1Bring your firearm to our Sussex shop with the destination's FFL info — the receiving dealer, gunsmith, or manufacturer (the destination must hold an FFL).

2We verify and log it, confirm the receiving FFL where one is required, and securely package your firearm for transit.

3We ship it out and hand you the tracking number — you'll know exactly where it is the whole way.
What we ship: firearms out to another licensed dealer (out-of-state purchase, sale, or relocation), to a gunsmith for repair or custom work, or back to the manufacturer for warranty and service.
Ships dealer-to-dealer only: by law the firearm must go to a licensed FFL — the receiving dealer, or a gunsmith or manufacturer that holds an FFL. We cannot ship a firearm to a private residence or anyone who isn't licensed.
Why you need us: since 2022, UPS and FedEx ship firearms only for FFL holders, and USPS won't accept handguns from private individuals at all — so an FFL has to send it for you. We make that simple and local.

The $50 transfer includes the $15 NICS background check and all processing — no add-ons. Just bring valid credentials: department ID, military ID or DD-214, or first responder / agency ID. The $50 transfer and the 5% discount can be used together on the same visit. The 5% discount applies to ammunition and accessories only and excludes optics (scopes, red dots, and other optics), firearms, and engraving services. Both discounts are available in store only at our Sussex location and do not apply to online orders placed at Firearms-Express.com. How does an FFL transfer work in New Jersey?
Purchase your firearm online from any licensed retailer and have them ship it to our FFL. Once it arrives, come in with your NJ ID and the proper NJ permit (FPID for long guns, Permit to Purchase for handguns). We complete the NICS background check and ATF Form 4473 on the spot, then you take your firearm home once approved. NICS background checks in NJ generally take 3 to 6 days.
How much does an FFL transfer cost at Firearms Express?
Our standard transfer fee is $60 total per firearm — $45 for transfer and processing plus $15 for the NICS background check. There are no hidden fees. The full $60 is due at the time of transfer.
Do I need a permit to receive a firearm transfer in New Jersey?
Yes. New Jersey law requires a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card (FPID) to receive long guns, and a Permit to Purchase a Handgun to receive handguns. You must have the proper permit before your transfer arrives. We cannot complete a transfer without it.

Are you a licensed FFL dealer?
Yes. Firearms Express LLC holds a Type 07 Federal Firearms License — a Manufacturer and Dealer license for firearms other than destructive devices. Our license is current and in good standing through November 1, 2028. Dealers shipping to us can download a copy of our FFL directly from our website.
Do you sell firearms online?
Yes. Our nationwide retail store is at Firearms-Express.com, which serves all 50 states. We also offer FFL transfer services in Sussex, NJ for firearms purchased anywhere online. Yes. Out-of-state customers can purchase ammunition at our Sussex store with a New Jersey non-resident (out-of-state) Firearms Purchaser ID card or a valid New Jersey carry permit. Bring valid photo ID and your credential, and we'll take care of the rest at the counter.
Can you ship my firearm to a gunsmith, manufacturer, or another dealer?
Yes. As a licensed FFL, we handle outbound firearm shipping \u2014 to another licensed dealer (including out of state), to a gunsmith for repair, or back to the manufacturer for warranty work. Since individuals can't ship firearms through UPS or FedEx and USPS won't take handguns from private parties, we send it for you \u2014 packaged and fully documented. By law it must ship to a licensed FFL \u2014 a dealer, or a gunsmith or manufacturer that holds an FFL — not to a private address. We offer the USCCA Basic Pistol Course (Beginner Pistol, $125), CCW Prep / Holster Fundamentals ($125), the full New Jersey concealed carry permit qualification ($220 — classroom use-of-force plus a live-fire CCARE range qualification that produces your SP-182 certificate), USCCA Home Defense ($99), USCCA Real Estate Agent Safety ($59), Know Your Firearm (private one-on-one instruction on your own handgun, $125), Academy Prep (pre-academy training for police recruits, $125), and Laser Practice sessions ($15). I don't want to learn to shoot — I just want to be safe around a gun in my house. Is there a class for that?
Yes, and it's Beginner Pistol. There's no shooting in that session at all. You'll learn how a handgun works, how to handle one safely, how to tell whether it's loaded, how to unload it, and how firearms should be stored at home. Many people take it and stop there, which is completely fine. It's built for anyone living with a firearm that isn't theirs, anyone who inherited one, and parents whose kids spend time where guns are present.
Do I need my own firearm to take a class?
Not for Beginner Pistol, Home Defense, or Academy Prep — we provide everything you'll need, and no experience is required. Bring your own handgun for Know Your Firearm (the private session built around your specific make and model) and for Laser Practice sessions. All training takes place in our classroom on a dry fire laser system, so there is no live fire on premises and no live ammunition in the classroom.

Yes — the Women's Beginner Handgun Course, the full USCCA Women's Handgun & Self-Defense Fundamentals course taught in a women-only class. It runs about 4 hours for $125 and covers all four parts of the discipline: Women's Basic, Intermediate, and Defensive Pistol, plus a Personal Safety Event. Can police officers practice for semi-annual qualification here?
Yes. Laser Practice sessions are 20 minutes at $10 for law enforcement and first responders, using your own handgun in our Sussex classroom. Officers book these to sharpen fundamentals and run their course of fire before semi-annual qualification. Sessions are by appointment.
Is there live fire at your training classes?
It depends on the class. Our classroom classes run on a dry fire laser training system — no live fire on the store premises and no live ammunition in the classroom, and every firearm is checked clear and fitted with a laser cartridge first. The exception is the NJ CCW Qualification, which includes a live-fire qualification at our private range. Dry fire laser training builds your fundamentals; it doesn't replace live-range time.
